Your play. Your privacy.
Fretuodle Privacy Policy
How Fretuodle handles browser storage, gameplay data, diagnostics, public results, and optional reminders.
Your privacy choices
Choose whether to allow optional measurement and browser diagnostics. Both are off until you choose. You can change your choice here at any time.
Game progress, preferences, requested reminders, shared results and official Daily Fretuodle completion records used for public statistics keep working with either choice.
Optional anonymous gameplay and reminder interaction events used to understand how the service is used.
Optional browser error reports, performance traces, and sampled session replays used to troubleshoot and improve the service.
Who we are and what this covers
Catloaf Software, Inc. operates Fretuodle, the daily fretboard game and learning library by Fretuoso®. This policy covers this website. Linked websites, app stores, and mobile apps have their own privacy policies. Playing requires no account, email address, phone number, or precise location.
Browser storage and cookies
This browser stores game progress, results, statistics, streaks, and preferences locally. A language cookie remembers your selected language for one year. Where privacy choices are available, cookies remember those choices. Reminders also store a private subscription identifier and management token in this browser. Clearing site data removes local progress and preferences; disable reminders first so the server subscription can also be deleted.
Gameplay and usage measurement
Official Daily Fretuodle completion records support public aggregate statistics even when optional usage measurement is declined. Gameplay events may include the Daily Fretuodle, instrument, theme, score, timing, entry source, and broad browser or device characteristics. Where privacy choices are available, other gameplay and reminder interaction events require your usage-measurement permission. Event data does not include your email, raw IP address, push subscription details, or explicit answer keys. Completion counts measure plays, not unique people.
Errors, performance, and replay
We use error reports and performance information to keep the service working. Browser diagnostics may include page addresses, browser and device details, interaction breadcrumbs, performance traces, and sampled session replays that reconstruct activity on the page. Where privacy choices are available, these browser diagnostics require your permission. Server operational and security reporting continues to support reliability and abuse prevention. Avoid including personal information in URLs or bug reports unless needed to help us resolve your request.
Public share links
Creating a share link stores an anonymous result snapshot, including the challenge, instrument, score, and timing. Anyone with the link can open or forward it. Public copies and previews may remain outside our control; share only results you are comfortable making public. To request removal of a share link, contact info@fretuoso.com with the link. Only our operators can delete shares; deleting a parent link leaves other players’ reshares available.
Optional reminders
Browser notifications are optional and require your permission. We store the private push endpoint and encryption keys, a management-token hash, language, and minimal completion and notification state. We send at most one Daily Fretuodle release reminder per global day, when the new Fretuodle publishes at midnight New York time. Disable reminders on the Fretuodle screen to delete the subscription and its delivery-attempt records. Browser notification settings can also block delivery; blocking permission alone does not delete the server record.
Technical processing and service providers
Hosting, security, measurement, diagnostics, and browser notification services process data needed to provide these features. Network requests necessarily expose technical information such as an IP address, request address, and browser headers to the services handling them, even though raw IP addresses are not stored in our application data or product-event payloads. Service providers may process information in other countries. If you contact us, we receive your email address and the information you choose to send, and use it to respond and handle your request.
Retention and your controls
Raw product events are retained for up to three months. Aggregate Daily Fretuodle summaries and public share snapshots may remain longer to support past challenges and shared links. Reminder delivery-attempt records are pruned after 15 days; subscription records remain until deleted by turning reminders off. Expired subscriptions may be disabled automatically without deleting their records. Browser data remains until you clear it. Diagnostic and support records are kept as needed for troubleshooting, security, and handling requests. Changing privacy choices stops future optional collection; it does not automatically erase previously collected data. Anonymous records may not be identifiable as yours.
Young learners
Parents and teachers should review this policy before young learners enable notifications or share results. Notification permission is not verified parental consent. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can investigate and address it.
Policy updates
We may update this policy when the service or its data handling changes. Review this page for the current policy. Material changes to optional collection will be reflected in the relevant privacy choices.
